Upcoming Changes to Public Groups and Default Feed Content

Expectations of social media platforms around the world are rapidly changing and we will lead the way! Look out for these changes coming soon.

Public Groups will be switched off, and all current Public Groups will be switched to Private

Why?

The reporting and moderation tools within your Coveys Village groups are exceptionally effective at containing and managing content that maybe undesirable or unwanted by others. To add a further layer of protection, you will soon need to explicitly choose to join a group (which will automatically apply a “follow” to that group), in order to see that group’s content in your feed. It will also be possible to join a group and then “unfollow” the content if you prefer, which will maintain your membership to the group, but reduce the “noise” in your feed from very active groups. By choosing to “unfollow”, you will then need to visit that group’s page to view their content. This planned change gives you greater control over what you choose to see in your Coveys Village feed. There will be no change to Secret groups, which will remain invite only, but can be “unfollowed” in the same way.

We expect this change to be completed by November 30th 2025.

Your feed will switch to “followed content only” as default

Why?

Instead of showing public content from the entire community by default, soon your feed will only contain content from members, groups and spaces you explicitly choose to follow. This will assist in preventing unwanted content from popping up in your feed and also allow tighter control over the quantity of content you see. In order to discover new content, you can choose to switch back to the “community” feed at anytime using the filters below the post box, or browse the Coveys Village Map, Groups and Space pages to follow new content.
